AbstractIn the face of current road pavement maintenance policies, the maintenance plan needs to be developed to maximize the economic effectiveness and serviceability of road. The objective of this study is developed the mathematical model for optimizing road maintenance policies for minimizing total cost and downtime per time unit, in the case of a single road section. For this case Golden Search method is applied to find the optimal maintenance time. After that, the opportunistic method is applied to develop the model for two consecutive road sections. Furthermore, in order to determine the preventive maintenance time for minimizing the total cost or downtime per time unit with limited total downtime or cost per time unit, Lagrange Relaxation method is applied to solve. The collected data from road No5 in Vietnam is to put into the road maintenance models for numerical calculation. The maintenance policy of No5 in Vietnam is approximately found by running a Visual C program. The optimal results form running program is useful for planning the maintenance schedule.
