AbstractWith blooming success of the Internet, several e-technologies like e-business, e-learning, eforum etc. evolved creating a convenient way of being linked to the globe virtually. However, these open doors have made us vulnerable to strangers and cheaters as well. The users, therefore, need to be alert and trust others very carefully. However, this concept of trust is not as simple as it sounds in real world as it lacks many of their features and facilities. The environment of trust and framework for its management should, therefore, be created to enable members of this virtual society to interact with trust and confidence. With objective of developing a reliable framework for trust management in online societies, this work initially analyzes the exiting online systems for trust and identifies their weaknesses. The study then focuses on several models that have been proposed in different literatures to evaluate their relative strength and weakness. As outcome of this detail analysis, a new model for trust in cyber societies is presented. The performance of the proposed model is, then, compared to that of other models. Finally, full-fledged implementation examples are presented to confirm that the framework is not just a theoretical concept but readily applicable too.
