Abstract | A low-Rate wireless personal area network, or LR-WPANs, is a network designed for low-cost, very low-power and short-range wireless communication. Until now, the main focus in the wireless industry has been on communication with higher data throughput, leaving out a set of applications requiring simple wireless connectivity with relaxed throughput and latency requirements. LR-WPANs will connect devices that previously have not been networked and allow applications that cannot use current wireless specifications, including applications in fields such as industry, agriculture, vehicle, residence, medical sensors, and actuators. Task Group 4 of the IEEE 802.15 Wireless Personal Area Network working group is currently working to define a wireless communication standard for LR-WPANs. This thesis covers area of LR-WPANs with the aim of design Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol. However due to the limited resources and the complexity of the process, the thesis has divided such process into two major parts. The first part covers the implementation on FPGA technology in the area of the MAC sublayer. The second part covers the implementation on ASIC technology for reduce the area and power consumption. This design has an accuracy and ability to manage the data sent between the Physical layer and Network layer. |
