AbstractMill-cooked Eucalyptus Calmaldulensis kraft pulp was O2-delignified in lab to kappa number around 12.5 and then bleached with D(Ep)D and Z(Ep)D. An optimum total kappa factor in prebleach stage was determined by the results obtained and used to bleach the O2-delignified pulp with ECF sequences combining ozone and ClO2 in prebleach stage and fixed charge of bleaching chemical in alkaline extraction and final stage. Effect of partial ClO2 replacement by ozone with different ratios were studies with respect to brightness development, kappa and HexA reduction, viscosity decrease as well as COD load in effluent. Based on the data thus obtained ozone application in ECF bleaching of Eucalyptus C. kraft pulp was evaluated.
