Abstract | fry collection is completely banned. Total 28.5 collectors have lost this job. Presently they have no income form fry collection and 10.5 % collectors are now totally jobless as they have no other sorts of occupation.54% collectors stared their income with fry collection and other shifted from other job for more income or for the lacking of other income sources. 30.5 % have no other occupation. The women collectors are more depended on fry collection than men and the other occupation are more diversified in Dacop than in Mongla. The average annual income fro the fry collection is 6000 taka. The community is interested to shift their job if they can get proper support from government or NGOs. In this regard most of them prefer small enterprise, as they don't have cultivation land. The fisherman and the shrimp farmer agreed with the implementation of the law but both of them suggest supporting the collectors for proper implantation. Still many farmers (65%) prefer wild fry for culture although 45.5 % respondents are using hatchery fries and 50% both hatchery and wild. They complained about the quality of hatchery fry for not to use. More or less all respondent are informed about the law. Department of Forest has ceased to give pass for harvesting in Sunderban, so complete banning is implementing there. In other place coastguard are taking some step. But they are mainly motivating them. The Department of Fisheries has the main responsibility to implement the banning, as it is part of Fish Act. But they have no capacity either with manpower or funding. They are now motivating the community. The Department also adopted some proposal to change the amendment for the betterment of the collectors. The collectors can be supported by NGO or government as they are working at the local level To implement such type of policy initiative should taken to give scope to community for coping with crisis the before promulgating with the collaboration and consultation of all stakeholders. |
