AbstractThe purpose of this study is to develop the models as a tool in order to support the decision-making process of BMA in the policy development in regards to promoting effective physical activity and identifying influencing factors associated with physical activity participation among people visiting the parks. The population consisted of 1,050 respondents from five parks in Bangkok during December 8 to 29, 2003. Five parks which are Lumphini Park, Thonburirom Park, Santiphap Park, Rotfai Park, and Benchasiri Park, are selected as case study sites. The obtained data were analyzed by using logistic regression analysis. The results of this study showed that the independent variables such as age, duration of exercise and frequency of visiting the park are statistically significant association with physical activity behavior either exercise or lack of exercise at 0.05 level as illustrated in the first model. The second model is developed for assessing the interested rate in each type of exercise among target group behavior. Independent variables such as the present health, the frequency of exercise and duration of exercise are considered as the main influence factors for selecting type of exercise in this model. Models 3 and 4 are developed to analyze the characteristics of respondents influencing associated with the causes that people decide not to exercise and decide not to exercise at the park. Moreover, the choice probability of each model is developed. This information is useful for BMA to support the decision-making process in the policy and strategy development for physical activity. In order to identify the reasons for unpopularity of using existing parks and promote the use of existing parks in Bangkok, the strategies and tactics based on the opinion of respondents are proposed. The analysis results are used to develop the appropriate policy and intervention strategy.
