Abstract | Recent tsunami on 26 December 2004 hit South Thailand coastline in the different areas e.g. Phangna, Phuket and Krabi has caused massive loss of life, destruction of coastal infrastructures and disruption to economic activity. Krahi is also one of the very beautiful and famous ecotourist province of south Thailand which has been devastated by terrible tsunami disaster especially in Aonang, Noopharat thara, Tup kaek, Phulay beach, Naammao bay, railay beach, Aophranang bay, Klong Mluang beach, Ko lanta islands and, Phi Phi islands. For mitigating tsunami hazard to save human lives and infrastructure in future, GIS has been utilized to develop tsunami hazard map, tsunami vulnerability map, tsunami risk zone map, tsunami evacuation map displaying evacuation routes and tsunami towers locations, and tsunami hazard resistant land use zoning map. These maps can be useful for the decisive authorities to rebuild and redevelop the region in term of' tsunami prevention and mitigation and to prevent from tsunami hazard if it happens again. In GIS multi-criteria spatial decision support system has been used by utilizing analytical hierarchal process (AHP) by the prioritization of the factors. Vulnerability map has been focused mainly in term of human lives safety rather than infrastructure due to data limitations |
