Abstract | The Indian Information Technology services have been growing at an annual rate of 40%. The last decade has seen the emergence of Indian IT companies taking the lead amongst the developing countries to the heights of global giants in the Information Technology Services and Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) area. These companies are leveraging on their strength of low cost implementation of Global Deliver Model (GDM) to provide high quality service. In recent times, there are signs of intensifying competition threats to Indian IT companies from the existing IT leaders and emerging countries. The existing higher growth is under threat from external sides such as cost reduction efforts of existing companies and rising back lash against outsourcing, and from internal side in the form of lower rate of innovation, lower brand name, rising attrition rate of employees and inability to provide services across the value chain. However, the analysis reveals that while these challenges would become sizeable threat, the Indian companies would grow in size to level comparable with Industry giants. In the time frame, accelerating the process to acquire brand name, achieve geographic diversification of revenues and provide services in upper segments of value chain would increase the sustainability of its competitive advantage. |
