AbstractAn experimental program was carried out to study the effects of internal blast load on ferrocement bomb basket and investigate the feasibility in using ferrocement as a main material of bomb basket. Two types of bomb baskets were studied. The basket with single layer of 4, 5 and 6-cm ferrocement were tested compared with the baskets with double layers of ferrocement. The thickness of inner layer of double layers ferrocement was 2.5 cm while those of outer layer were 2.5 cm and 3.5 cm. The baskets were tested under the blast loads of 0.5, 0.75 and 1 pounds of TNT (Trinitrotoluene) which were placed in the middle of bomb baskets. In some tests, 1" or 2" nails were packed with explosive to investigate the damages on the baskets. The test results showed that (1) ferrocement material is quite good to resist the internal blast load and (2) the double layers ferrocement bomb baskets could resist blast load effectively and performed better than the single layer ferrocement bomb baskets. In addition, the relationship between the peak reflected pressure from internal blast load and the overload pressure obtained from dynamic effect and static bursting pressure (derived from material mechanical properties and configuration of bomb basket) could be drawn to benefit further design of ferrocement bomb basket
