AbstractThe globe is continuously becoming service-oriented and hence service constraints play an important role in savings and profit making. Globalization and cooperation demands an enormous flexibility of companies to be competitive. They have to react quickly to the changes in the demands within themselves. For these demands, planning adaptive and reliable systems are required, which are able to coordinate new information. Cooperative Delivery System is one such concept, which can fulfill these requirements with generation of plans of desired quality. The objective is to minimize the number of vehicles needed to meet a given service level constraint, or to maximize the number of served requests using a given number of vehicles. Vehicles are outsourced and demand is dynamic on a daily basis. The present scenario of the company has a no aid to decide about the transportation requirement for the decision making process and this has resulted in a mammoth expenditure to the company. Reduction of time in any transport or logistic related activity is another problem that needs attention. One such problem is solved to reduce costs. The proposed work describes and evaluates a practical computer based method for translating data concerning (1) the route along a system to be serviced by the vehicle fleet and (2) the location of each employee to be transported to the company and back. Specific routes are cooperated so that vehicle capacity and service conditions are satisfied while attempting to improve the vehicle usage in terms of number of seats used by people and the number of vehicles required in servicing all the employees associated with the company. The mathematical model developed using cooperative delivery system is programmed in Visual Basic 6.0 and the same applied to the company's previous records. The second part of problem regarding reducing the logistic costs related to transportation is solved. The concept of "KAIZEN" is used and a computerized employee overtime chart developed using Microsoft Excel. To sum, overall results show the developed model and the program facilitates in saving time and costs
