AbstractBus transit shares of travel are declining in many cities and conditions are worsening. Changing these trends and moving toward more sustainable transport is imperative. Improvement of public transportation system by reducing private vehicle usage is one of the low cost transportation. However, private vehicle users are not attracted toward the public transport system. It was observed that decision on travel mode choice is strongly affected by travel behavior of the commuters. The people behavioral choice is for the use private vehicles in developing countries. Different factors involve in people choice for different mode. The people self awareness of their travel activity in term of number of trips, cost, time and emission of pollutant is very necessary for the motivation of use the environmental friendly public transport by raising the people perception for existing conditions and response for sustainable public transport. The people are not much aware of their role of creation air pollution by using private car. There is need of education and awareness to public for the use of public transport to resolve the environment problems. The focus of this research was to identify the people behavior for the choice of different modes in different conditions and to determine the people attitudes for the environmental conditions and for environmental friendly public transport. The main objective of this research is to study travel choice of Bangkok automobile and public transport users and change in their travel behavior due to awareness and education for an environmental friendly mode Bus Rapid Transit. The research have done to generate the awareness in people for use of a good public transport, Bus Rapid Transit and than the evaluation have done on the difference in people attitudes before and after the study. The people perception for the existing environmental conditions and response for environmental friendly mode was determined by using travel diary survey and by producing emissions fact sheets from their daily travel activity. The study has been carried out among two groups, one was the travel diary group and other was the non travel diary group. The Travel Diary Survey has been conducted by travel diary group. The content of travel diary was unique, for environmental conditions. The Travel Diary Survey has been conducted first time in Thailand. After getting the travel diary results the Panel Survey has been carried out among both groups. The Panel Survey for the travel diary group has accomplished with the emissions fact sheets that has prepared from the daily travel activity of respondents. The difference in the change of behavior of respondents and for the choice of Bus Rapid Transit has been evaluated for the determination of the effect of environmental awareness and education in groups, travel diary group and non travel diary group
