AbstractWomen's entrepreneurial activity performs a fundamental role in creating a vigorous and dynamic economy. The active involvement of women in the economy has beneficial effects on other areas of society as well: women-owned businesses are an important source of employment generation; offer women the possibility of balancing work and family responsibilities and contribute to empowerment of women. This research study provides an in-depth look at women's entrepreneurship and highlights the important role that women play in developing and developed economies. Furthermore, the study investigates the state of female entrepreneurship in Thailand and it examines profiles of women entrepreneurs looking at the factors affecting their performance with relation to the socio-cultural and geographical context. It explores the experiences and motivations of these Thai women business owners and tries to understand why they got involved into entrepreneurial activity. By carefully examining these factors we can come to a greater understanding of Thai women entrepreneurs' role in the contemporary business environment and how it relates to issues of social equity and gender equality. The findings suggest that public policy directed at suppo11ing education, financial assistance, network development and mentoring would enable the increased involvement of women in new venture creation.
