Abstract | Tadiran batteries Ltd is the world leader in manufacturing of lithium thionyl chloride batteries for industrial use. The company is in the forefront of innovation in the battery technology. It has been a technology leader in this segment for a long time. Tadiran has launched TLM series of primary AA size battery based on Lithium organic technology, which is safer and has more voltage and current capacity than the other Lithium cells available in the market. The company is looking for new applications where TLM battery can he introduced. One of the markets in which Tadiran is searching for opportunities is powered orthopedic devices market. The study attempts to identify whether there is a market for the TLM battery in the powered orthopedic devices. TLM battery being a non rechargeable battery faces more challenges than a new rechargeable battery would have faced in the same market. The study also points out how Tadiran can utilize the capabilities of TLM to create a new market for the battery. The major conclusion of the study is that there is a trend in the Powered Orthopedic Medical Devices towards cordless devices. More and more devices being launched are battery powered, the preferred battery being the rechargeable one. Although TLM wins on many parameters its still has to face stiff competition in this domain because it is a non rechargeable battery |
