Abstract | Implementing and using core banking applications in modern banking organizations has become a necessary part of the business. But in Nepal, modem and mechanized banking system has a very short history. Even till recent, wide spectrum of Nepali banking industry carried out its business in `old fashion' ways. This situation is however changing and the Nepali banking industry is coming of age and is changing the ways it does business. In past 5 years the Nepali banking industry has witnessed few adaptations or migrations to new generation core banking applications. As the competition grows, more banks are expected to migrate to newer and better computer application systems. Also any new entrant banks have to implement such application. In this scenario, the project undertaken by banks to implement/ migrate to new generation core banking applications becomes a critical issue for Nepali Banks. Especially because the costs of these projects are high and there is scarcity of expertise having knowledge in banking business, software/hardware specifications, system implementation and project management in Nepal. This research study proposes conceptual Critical Success Factors and Success Criteria to Nepali banking industry. IT vendors, implementing agency, consultants and other stakeholders who will be involved in such projects in future. Cases of two Nepali banks which have recently undertook such projects are studied in-depth. The proposed conceptual CSFs and SC are applied to the cases for qualitative analysis and implications are drawn. Finally this research stud\, recommends CSFs and SC specific to core banking application projects in Nepali banks. Ensuring all the CSFs will lead to project success. Considering all the SC will lead to better project judgment |
