Abstract | "Chance favors the prepared mind". The prepared mind is agile. The prepared mind is aware of the future and builds capability in response to it. In today's highly competitive business world, every company has to embody this thinking. Prepared mind is what will make every company agile enough to respond effectively to the changes in the business world. Knowledge is the key element for this agility. Knowledge about the future challenges, competitions, trends and the latent needs of the consumers are indispensable. Innovation is the successful formulation and application of this knowledge, which leads to development and improvement of products, processes, services, markets and ideas. In market definable terms innovation is the successful expression of the ideas and demands of the people from the whole supply chain or demand chain, into a feasible product or process. Innovation is thus critical to a company's future economic success and sustainable development in the ever changing competitive environment. Innovation deals with the expression of an idea into a commercially viable product. So it becomes imperative to manage this process. This process is called as innovation management process. In this research study, a case study company was chosen from the vegetable seed industry. The information about the whole supply chain and other processes of the case study company are found through questionnaires and interviews. The analysis of the case study company gave a better understanding of the seed industry. This information was further used to evaluate the innovation management process in the case study company. Based on the observations, a structured innovation management model was proposed for the innovation management process of the agriculture seed industry. The research study also used structured evaluation matrixes to evaluate the processes of the case study company. Recommendations were given to improve and foster this innovation management in the case study company. |
