Abstract | The concept of supply chain management in Thailand's food retail business has been already explored for more than a decade, and proved to be beneficial. However, the level of competition in the food retail sector is growing from both external factor of globalization and internal factor of retailer's improving capabilities. Therefore, nature of food retailing competition has changed from firm against firms to supply chain competes against other chains. Hence, companies are implementing supply chain integration not only to improve theirs own operations but also to construct ever more efficient and responsive supply chains. This research studied supply chain management in Thailand's superstore business, and illustrates the application of supply chain integration concepts to Thailand's food retailers. In order to have a thorough understanding on supply chain management and supply chain integration of superstores in Thailand, an exploratory case study on Big C Supercenter was conducted. The study consisted of in-depth interviewing of people knowledgeable about the industry and willing to share their experiences. Big C Supercenter is one of the leading superstores in Thailand. It grew rapidly and proved that sophisticated Supply Chain Management is vital to business as the strategic tools for performance enhancement. Presently, Big C implemented advanced supply chain integration both within organization and externally integrated with its partners. The integration mode of Big C is a combination of collaboration schemes which enabling cost reduction, higher service level, strengthens business relationship and chain's capabilities development. Finally, the study recommends commitment to partnership relationship, building horizontal strategic alliance, and supply chain agility improvement to Big C's supply chain management as integration implications which might be helpful for Big C Supercenter to sustain the profitable growth under escalating competition food retail market |
