AbstractSingapore is one of the most admirable countries in Asia for her transformation into one of the most successful regional financial centers in Asia. Singapore's robust financial sector had withstood the 1997 Asian Financial crisis well. Singapore's positioning of herself as a regional financial center began since the 1970s. Since then, far-sighted policies of liberalizations and reforms of her financial markets contributed to her success today. Thailand also had the ambition to become the regional financial center in the early 1990s but was not able to realize the ambition following the failure of its financial structure and monetary policies which resulted in the 1997 financial crisis. This research study analyzed Singapore's past approaches, practices, financial structure and financial markets developments that made Singapore a successful financial center. Comparisons with Thailand's case of financial sector development are then made. Based on the findings, recommendations are then made for Thailand to improve her position as a regional financial center
