Abstract | This research is to once again look at the very popular and unavoidable trend of privatization- a presumably essential method to push up the economic growth of especially developing countries. The research starts with providing the very fundamental theory of privatization including various definitions, reasons leading to privatization, types of privatization, as well as necessary factors to implement and control successfully the privatization process namely legal and financial aspects. Based on the basic theory of privatization, the research moves to study the privatization process taking place in particular Vietnam. Furthermore, the research focuses on the performance of privatization in the dairy production industry with the case of Vietnam dairy products joint stock Company. The research tries to clarify the reason why privatization in Vietnam is called equitization. Then, it provides the overall assessment of equitization in Vietnam based on SWOT analysis since equitization was implemented in the country. The case study of Vietnam dairy products joint stock company (Vinamilk) is the focus of the research which highlights the success of a reformed state-owned enterprise. However, the research is aimed at a higher objective as it raises the question whether privatization in general or equitization in Vietnam particularly is the only path for economic development. To illustrate the question, the research provides analysis of New Zealand- the country which is executing the renationalization of certain public services. Also, it provides an analysis of Fonterra dairy products Group which is considered a kind of creative monopoly. The trend in New Zealand and the trend in Vietnam are running contrary that makes the trend of privatization controversial. A comparison between the two companies from the same industry but different countries in terms of level of development will disclose certain cautions and recommendation for the Vietnamese government in executing the equitization and for the Vinamilk leaders in order to win in such a competitive dairy market after being reformed |
