Abstract | Project quality management can be defined as a process required to ensure that all the activities included in the project such as designing, planning and finally implementing the entire project, are efficient, effective and are on-par with the defined sets and standards of the overall project performance. This process is not an independent process that only occurs at the final stage of a task to inspect the quality of the system. It is rather a continuous process that is involved in the life time of the whole project. In this study, the quality management for the water supply system in Pyi Gyi Tagon Township (Mandalay), which is a conjoint project between Mandalay City Development Committee (MCDC) and Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is analyzed and the importance of quality management in large scale project is emphasized. And such, the strength and weakness of the quality management practiced in this project are discussed. Detailed analysis has been made in the quality management practices in the construction works, quality control of the used materials, choosing the project site locations to ensure the optimal service coverage, the quality control procedures in the document control process and the project quality control during the all construction phases. Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) and Non-Conformance Report (NCR) are also needed in the quality management and are also included in the study. Lastly, the strength and weakness of the practices in this project are summarized, and are given my own recommendations and the lesson learnt to each of the weaknesses for the potential quality management plans in the future. |
