AbstractThis research study aims to identify the present problems associated with Nepal Oil Corporation and assist the management to understand the reasons behind the underperformance of the organization. The present research study tries to recognize the reform options that could enhance the performance of Nepal Oil Corporation and recommend the best possible reform solutions to the management of the organization. Hence it could raise the issues to the government. The policy, regulatory and the way it is managed have a big impact in the national economy. With the modern business environment dominated by imminent globalization and increased economic liberalization, experiences of the developed nations show that the state-owned enterprises can perform more efficiently with participation from the private sector. The research study focuses on the following four major issues that have effects on the performance of Nepal Oil Corporation: autonomy, ownership, regulation and competition. The analyses have taken into consideration discussions of the present situation of Nepal Oil Corporation with different respondents having experience and knowledge on the petroleum sector. Different kinds of reforms that could take place have been discussed and the most effective reform options have been recommended after substantial analysis. The researches' recommendation is to attract new entrants into the petroleum sector and to divest the shares that the government holds in the Nepal Oil Corporation in a phase-wise process holding a majority share of the government
