AbstractIn this turbulent, competitive climate in the region, it is necessity for Myanmar to develop all business sectors in order to cope with region's economic advancement. Moreover, the changes in the nature of employment toward more knowledge-based, skill and empowerment are more required than ever before. Human resources become the key aspect of the most dynamic and challenging business environment in Myanmar. Along with the growing rate of tourists, hotels industry serves as a key role in supporting the tourism by providing the accommodation facilities to tourists. An organization can achieve its vision and mission with proper the capacity of its human resources. So it is very important to have an effective and appropriate recruitment process and methodology, which allow the organization to recruit the best possible candidates for the needed requirements as recruiting and retaining the competent employees for one's business is become a critical factor for the success of a business. The overall objective of this research is to analyze the recruitment and selection practices in Myanmar hotel industry. For this purpose, a case study was conducted in Traders Hotel (Yangon), Parkroyal Hotel and Summit Parkview Hotel, international standards and foreign investment hotels, to see how they recruit and select people in accordance with their business objectives and requirements. According to the survey, General Manager retains as top decision makers in recruitment and selection of the employees. The major sources of recruitments are Internal Job Positioning, Employee Referrals and Word-of-mouth processes. The survey results and in-depth interviews reveal that hotels in Myanmar are facing the problems of finding skilled workers with relevant experiences. Surprisingly, there is very high employee's turnover rate in Myanmar hotel industry. Lack of good job opportunities, high inflation and economic instability might be the reasons of this trend. The problems are not in their interviews methods but in their selection process due to the unavailability of bigger pool of applicants and their weakness in retaining the competent employees. This paper also tries to compare the recruitment and selection practices of those surveyed hotels in terms of their effectiveness, methodology, procedure and sources. Finally, the researcher proposes suggestion and recommendations for the selected hotels to improve their current recruiting and selection practices so as to achieve the organizational effectiveness.
