AbstractThe purpose of this research study is mainly to analyze the opportunities and challenges in the pulp and paper industry in Thailand by studying Thailand's largest and most advanced conglomerate- The Siam Cement Group and by conducting a case study of Phoenix Pulp and Paper Public Company Limited. This Research study focuses on analyzing the external environment and the industrial structure which forms as a base for the pulp and paper industry. The pulp and paper industry is a high technology industry and is capital-intensive and extremely complicated with high switching costs. Hence these characteristics provide some opportunities and significant challenges to the producers and new entrants at the same time. The study also keeps in mind the growth opportunities of Asian pulp and paper industry and provides a detailed analysis of future projects and growth strategies and an in-depth case study of Phoenix Pulp and paper public company limited. However, there are many aspects of opportunities and challenges existing in the pulp and paper industry which are further discussed in this research study. The study concludes by exploring ways and plans to overcome these challenges and utilizing the opportunities for further growth and development of this industry.
