AbstractThis research study mainly explains the development of consulting industry and its current situation in China. Through analysis of its competitive settings from different perspectives, the study further explored what opportunities and threats are there for both domestic and multinational consulting films in Chinese market. Confronted with increasingly intensified competition both from foreign consulting giants and domestic consulting competitors, possible counter-strategies proposed by theorists and experienced practitioners have been analyzed and sifted for domestic consulting firms. In the meanwhile, economists noticed opportunities outweigh threats for domestic consulting firms and what they have to focus more at present is how to enhance their core competences which will finally enable them to become more competitive in the market. Based on the external environment, industry and SWOT analysis, specific recommendations are also proposed for decision-makers and practitioners as possible guidance. - Establishing an independent association of consulting industry - Learning to manage people effectively - Deploying Information Technology and Internet.
