AbstractWith an increasing amount of people using the Internet as source of finding information, the need for a more effective search tool to find relevant information among the billion of Webpage arises. One such promising tool is Google, the current leader of search engines with market share greater than two of its closest competitors (Yahoo! and Windows Live) combined. Therefore it is important to understand the evolution of search engines, and how Google's contribution and competitive advantages allow it to rise to the top in such a short time. This research also aims to study the impact of search engines on users' information searching experience and preference, the comparison of library versus search engines as search tools, and user recommendation for improvements in future search engine. The information used in this research is based on secondary and primary data gained through questionnaire survey. The result concluded that users generally prefer search engines over library as primary source of information, and that most users access two or more search engines when finding information. It is also found that users prefer to use search engines that have simple and easy to use interface, while convenience can come before the quality of information.
