Abstract | Soybean [GI rine max (L)] is a very important legume crop for oil extraction in the tropical region. A lot of simulation models have been developed for a number of crop production processes including weather, soil erosion, phenology, growth and yield. GLYCIM soybean model has been designed to simulate growth of a cultivar on any soil and at any location and time of year. The main objective of this research was to study on-farm application of GLYCIM soybean model for different sowing dates and varieties. Field experiments were carried out with three different dates of sowing 35, 37 and 39 mw, with three different varieties CM-2, SJ-5 and CM-60. For different treatments, inputs were defined and provided to the GLYCIM soybean model. Predicted results were obtained and the model was tested for given treatments. It was found that the early sowing treatment (35 mw) gave significantly higher values biometric parameters, seed yield and biomass compared to the medium and late sowings. Also, cultivar SJ-5 showed significantly higher seed yield and biomass among all three cultivars at all sowing dates, followed by the cultivar CM-2. The model- simulated results well matched with observed values. Parameters like leaf area, number of flowers, single seed weight, dry stem weight, dry root weight and seed yield could well-predicted (PE<10%) by model whereas, the number of pods and number of seeds are fair match (PE lied between 10 to 25%) with observed parameters. This study revealed that the GLYCIM soybean model for the tropical region with treatment combination of different sowing dates and varieties can be well used |
