AbstractThis study develops an integrated production-inventory policy for perishable products with constant decay rate, stock dependent demand and partial backlogging. The integrated system consists of one producer and one retailer, in each production cycle the producer delivers products to the retailer by some equal-size shipments. The demand rate at the retailer level depends on its stock level; the demand rate is a linear function of the retailers' stock level. The retailer allows backorder and lost sale, but the backlogging rate depends on the waiting time because customers will not wait for backorder if they have to wait for a long time. A mathematical model incorporating the profits of both producer and retailer is developed, and it is found that the integrated policy results in significant profit increment for the whole system compared with independent decisions made by the retailer and the producer. Various numerical examples and sensitivity analysis are also conducted. These results show that the integrated policy is quite effective, especially for the system with high demand rate, or for the products with high decay rate. The integrated policy's performance is also found sensitive to most parameters involved
