Abstract | The deaf and dump always face many difficulties in communicating with the society. They do have their own language, American Sign Language (ASL), to contact with each other. However, ASL is such a complicated language study for everyone. Thus, an ASL recognition system is always a need of the society. This research is about creating an innovative system using image processing techniques to form a useful interpreting equipment in communicating between the deaf and dump and the society. The system can recognize the hand gestures of ASL then speak out the recognized word and display the recognized letter without any helps of auxiliary devices. With a simple and flexible algorithm, a recognition system has been successfully created. The next systems will be embedded this algorithm into FPGA chip to create a portable machine vision |
