AbstractIn order to prevent lost of life, poverty, and injury from traffic accidents, many collision avoidance systems have been developed, especially for rear-end collision cases. All of algorithms that applied in these systems use average driver responses for parameters. This may not encourage a driver to use the avoidance system, because different drivers have different driving behaviors. This research has been studied about driver responses of different groups of people. In this research, a driving simulator has been created to simulate and acquire data from drivers. The results from this simulator show that different drivers have different kinds of responses. Furthermore, the results indicate that driver characteristics have affects on the driving reaction parameters. The differences of driver response behaviors that presented by different models have been used to adjust parameters of the existing collision avoidance algorithms
