AbstractMaterial Requirement Planning (MRP) and Just in Time (JIT) system are directed toward planning and controlling of material flow quantity and schedule. MRP and JIT are powerful management tools that could determine the success or failure of an entire manufacturing system. In the presented research study, the efforts are to investigate the possibility of integrating the two systems to drive the manufacturing environment in a way, so as to minimize the cost factors related to production, delay and waiting time. The search for optimal junction point gives stronger emphasis on integrating MRP and lIT systems, which, in turn, drives the minimum cost arising from the production delay and waiting time in multi-stage, production- inventory system (MS- PIS). The junction point indicates the distinction between push and pull systems to keep the system cost minimum. This is presented by a case study of a serial multi-stage manufacturing environment. The processing line for the product under case study is simulated to find out the values of stochastic variables, which are driving the cost function of the system. The different locations of the junction point have been identified and simulation model generated to get the stochastic variables values. Out of the cases identified, the best case giving the minimum cost has been selected as recommended policy to run the production
