Abstract | Ink jet paper is one kind of special coated paper, its coating color is adopted hydrophilic silica as pigment and hydrophilic PVA as binder to achieve absorbing ink quickly. But this results in bad water fastness. In this paper, the author found out the influence of two kinds of binder (PVA and starch) on printing quality and \vater fastness. The results indicated that dosage of PVA couldn't be up to 80 parts/100 parts silica because of the bad printing quality although it didn't meet surface strength. Starch has little effect on printing quality and could be used as co-binder to increase surface strength. The author also studied the influence of four kinds of cationic polymers (CP 1, CP2, CP3 and CP4) on printing quality and water fastness, and found that CP4 was the best ink fixing agent to obtain good printing quality and water fastness. The optimal formulation was chosen by orthogonal experiment, it is shown in below: Pigment: silica 100 parts; Binder: PVA 60 parts; Co-binder: starch 30 parts; Dye fixing agent: CP4 8 parts; DMC of coating color: 22%. This formulation can get good printing quality and certain water fastness, but water fastness still need to be improved. Three kinds of cross linker (PZC, AZC and RC 5550) were attempted to increase water fastness. The results showed that using these cross linker didn't improve water fastness clearly, so more suitable cross linker should be looked for in the future |
