AbstractThe objective of this experiment is to find out the effect of SMAI content on the properties of ink jet coatings with varying content of precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) and silicon dioxide (SiO₂). Coating color and coated paper were produced by using SMAI (Styrene Maleic Anhydride Imide Resins) as cationic dye fixative. Composition of pigments, SiO₂ and PCC, was varied from formulas. 100% SiO₂, 100% PCC and 50% SiO₂ together with 50% PCC were used in this experiment. On the other hand, polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) was used as binder in formulations. Printing quality and water fastness of coated paper were examined. The results show that the dose of SMAI had strong effects on coating color and coated paper. Increasing the dose of SMAI, printing quality increased as well as the water fastness. At the same time, change of composition of pigments also affected the properties of coating color and coated paper. Results also indicate that change of composition of pigment and had much bigger effect on properties of coating color and coated paper
