AbstractMill-cooked Eucalyptus calmaldulensis kraft pulp was pre-bleached with DOEp, and then bleached with D1D2 & D1P with and without intermediate washing. Effect of washing was studied with respect to brightness development, viscosity decrease and paper properties. Washing helped to get higher brightness, but made little difference on viscosity and paper properties. The chemical addition order for DP and PD final bleaching also studied. Chemical Neutralization was showed important for brightness improvement. Longer retention time for P stage gave brightness development; long retention time in D stage gave no benefit
