AbstractCoating color and coated paper were produced by using different five kinds of S/B latexes, PCC, GCC and Kaolin varied from six formulations. CMC was just used as a binder in three formulations. The results show that pigment had major effects on the properties of coating color and coated paper, especially GCe, it made bigger contributions to dry pick velocity than other two pigments. It also shows that coating could increase opacity but reduced the air permeability. Results also appear that coating improved the smootlmess of paper obviously. Three main variables of SIB latexes included gel content, pariicle size and glass transition temperature. It clear that three of them have obvious effects on the properties of coating color and coated paper through this experiment. Three propeliies of coated paper were measured in this experiment including PPS roughness, air permeability and dry pick velocity. Results show that increasing glass transition temperature of latex decreased dry pick velocity and roughness but increased air permeability. Results also show that increasing the particle size of latex increased rouglmess and air permeability but decreased dry pick velocity. In terms of gel content, results show that increasing the gel content increased dry pick velocity and roughness but decreased air permeability
