AbstractOn the basis of various scenarios of simulated rock mass condition using Monte Carlo random variable simulation method a comparative study was made for tunnelling at the Bhumibol Reservoir Inflow Augmentation Project. The geological conditions were interpreted from borehole data and geological map by mean of geological parameters ,index: Rock Mass Type (RMT) and the Geotechnical units (GTU) throughout the tunnel length. The geological parameter used after the simulation is the Geological Strength Index (GSI) and the equivalent Rock Mass Rating (RMR) for tunnelling with Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) and Drill and Blast (D&B) methods were determined for rock support requirement determination. Then the cost of tunnelling (excavation plus rock support cost) for three scenarios of expected rock mass condition (most likelihood, pessimistic and optimistic) were determined.
