Abstract | Microtremor technology (passive seismic) is a fairly simple concept to apply based on a basic principal that the entire seismo-acoustic event providing information related to the medium. From a theoretical view point, this approach with good sensor would demonstrate well to indicate hydrocarbon content of geological structures by analyzing low frequency seismic signal. Considering the potential of its applicability in geophysical prospecting, microtremor observation has been conducted thru controlled sample with varying saturation experiment. Total of 16 sets of sand pile has been prepared using standard Proctor compaction method (Standard D698-91, ASTM 1997b) for microtremor observation conducted on compacted sand pile with moisture content of 3%, 5%, 7% and 9% under dry condition, water saturated condition and oil saturated condition. Data processing program of microtremor analysis (Tuladhar, 2002) and J-SESAME (SESAME, 2003) were used in this study to investigate and interpret the obtained signals. This study uses natural ambient noise and is accessed as experimental results that provide observable phenomenon in the 2 - 4 Hz range tremor signals passing thru hydrocarbon bearing porous medium. Ultrasonic testing is presented in this thesis depicted as an attempt to explain the signal resembling in path effect due to fluid saturation. |
