Abstract | E-commerce has emerged since the 1990s. And e-commerce has proved its importance in the international trade. It is still changing and adapting to new business environments. Ecommerce is expected to bring many practical benefits to SMEs, an important component in the economies of developing countries such as Vietnam. However, the e-commerce adoption in enterprises in Vietnam was quite low, especially in SMEs group. In Hoi An, a central coastal town of Vietnam, that used to be the prosperous trading and distribution center of South East Asia in 16th - 19th centuries and now, having become the UNESCO cultural heritage and an interesting place for tourists, SMEs have made initial steps to adopt e-commerce in their businesses. In terms of applying e-commerce to SMEs, SMEs in Hoi An can be exemplary for SMEs in provincial areas of Vietnam. This research study aims at finding out the issues in the e-commerce adoption in SMEs in Hoi An, in which the incompatibilities are focused to study. Finally, the research ends by giving recommendations for improving e-commerce applications in SMEs in Hoi An, particularly, and in Vietnam, in general. |
