AbstractNanotechnology in pharmaceutical industry would bring a new hope to humankind. Nanomedicine may improve the standard of living (now only few marketed products). It can be a very effective drug that can go precisely to target cells or specific organs. It can also provide some potential benefits such as cheaper surgical and diagnostic tools, more efficient research and diagnosis, quicker new disease detection and longer lifespans. However there are some important issues to be concerned. First, nanomedicine cannot be used world wide because of the difficulty to produce and the prices. So the scalability is very narrow. Second, because most people do not know the real benefit and side effects of nanomedicine, they may suspect to use it. Finally, the process of converting basic researches in nanomedicine into commercially viable products is long and difficult. Nanomedicine in Thailand is in a very early stage because of lacking government supports and knowledgeable people in nanopharmaceutical market together with the low to moderate purchasing power people. Thus they have been heavily dependent on local-made generic drug. In the present, Thailand can only do few basic nanomedicine researches by cooperating with some advanced countries.
