AbstractEnergy efficiency, the oil price and environmental problem arc more and more becomes sharp problem in the electricity sector of not only developed but also of developing countries which have the robust development in recent years. It puts Thu Duc Thermal Power Station (TDPS) in a very difficult case due to fuel oil firing, the world oil price has a tendency to increase leading to the rise of domestic oil price. However, natural gas is purchased from the local natural gas source; therefore, the gas price is less sensitive to the world oil price. Consequently, the oil-gas price ratio is unable lower than the present value. Vietnam has exported crude oil but a large mount of fuel must be imported from the foreign countries now. There are some natural gas basins located in the South of Vietnam which is supplied a huge quantity for the domestic market. Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) is a big customer of this field to produce electricity to supply to the national grid from the natural gas. This research study has focused on inspection and modification on steam boiler units of Thu Duc Thermal Power Station (TI)PS) which is belonging to Electricity of Vietnam (EVN). The work based on conversion from heavy fuel oil (FO) to natural gas (NG) firing, it brings high benefits for Thu Duc Thermal Power Station and Electricity of Vietnam in economics and environment aspects. The study also presents a way to suggest and modify for the steam boiler units of TDPS
