AbstractGlobalization ties together trade, financial markets, technology, and living standards in totally different way. A freeze in Brazil and its effect on coffee production are felt around the world. The economic turmoil in Asia influenced stock markets, investments, and trade flows in all corners of the earth. These linkages have also become more intense on an individual level. On the other hand, trade blocs like NAFTA, EU and ASEAN etc. are another trend for world economy. Regional cooperation helps a country to overcome the size limitation and exploit economies of scale. And it also helps a country to construct an economic and financial secure guard before happening crisis. Regional groupings based on economics became increasingly important. To cope with the new economic order like the globalization and the trading blocs, each country needs to manage its own economy strategically in the long term viewpoints. In terms of Korean economy, it is important to know how to compete with others in more and more globalized and integrated economic environment. This is not only the problem for Korea, but also for the South and Southeast Asia. For the viewpoint of Korea, South and Southeast Asia is more important as Korea's trade scale and economic cooperation with them have been increased continuously and strenuously. The trade between Korea and South and Southeast Asia has been increasing gradually but after the financial crisis its trade value and growth rate have been growing faster than ever before. Moreover, the regional economic cooperation with South and Southeast Asia has its own strength for Korean economy. The trade becomes a cost-effective because of the reduced transportation cost. And because the Asian region has a distinct Asian identity shaped by history and cultural exchanges over several centuries, Korea could access to their market relatively with ease. The complementary economic cooperation between Korea and South and Southeast Asian nations is very important for each country's growth and even inevitable to compete with other economic blocs like NAFTA and EU. As a potential future market, South and Southeast Asia is crucial for Korean economic growth
