AbstractThe Kra navigation canal is a major canal project that has a long history. It is proposed to connect between Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand. There are many proposed routes which were aligned and studied for difference purposes. Nowadays, there are four proposed routes, Ranong - Chumphon Route, Phangnga - Nakhon Si Thammarat Route, Trang - Nakhon Si Thammarat Route and Satun - Songkhla Route, which should be selected the most suitable route. In this study the most suitable route for hydraulic engineering based on flow velocity, scouring and depositing is Trang-Nakhon Si Thammarat Route. Flow velocity in some periods is high so ships can navigate in one direction in a half day. The best cross section in hydraulic engineering consideration is a single canal with two lanes. The scouring occurs around the transition zone where the cross section is changed to steep side slope because flow velocity will be high. Sediment inflow from the sea deposits around canal inlets which sand particle will not be transported to the middle of canal. Social impact, economic and environmental impact is initially studied to be the factors for selecting the most feasible route and it shows that the most suitable route is Satun-Songkhla Route and the second one is Ranong-Chumphon Route
