Abstract | The Indian automotive industry is in the midst of a boom in growth with a 15% CAGR projected until 2012. This study identifies the need for analyzing the supply chain of auto industry to ascertain the industry's competitiveness. Further, Rane Madras Limited - an original component manufacturer has been studied as a case to understand and analyze the supply chain of the company with particular reference to vendor satisfaction. The survey reveals key issues in the supply chain: Quality and time to delivery have their importance. However, backward support & feedback also play a major role. There are at least five aspects to the overall commercial environment that apply to the Indian market at present: Size, Proximity to customers, Labor costs, Intellectual property protection and Infrastructure. Further, it also shows that RML had long relationship with its vendors and gives an indication that RML's sourcing decisions are based more on emotional rather than on strategic reasons |
