AbstractXPath is a query language for selecting data from an XML document. With a path-based syntax, XPath is used to define subsets in XML data trees according to certain conditions. However, if these conditions are not considered thoroughly, it will get much execution time for retrieving data, especially in large documents. As a consequence, a problem set up is that how we can use XPath language in XML effectively. For this requirement. there arc many approaches brought out to solve the problem in XPath. This study introduces a new approach to XPath optimization by using XDD. Based on rewriting rules, the initial XPath expression is transformed into a simpler XPath expression that has no redundant conditions. Therefore, the execution time of the simpler XPath expression will be decreased.
