Abstract | Public hospitals in Vietnam are experiencing a transition period when the country is moving from a centrally planned economy to the market economy with many difficulties and strangeness. Up to now there is lack of researches on public management in public hospitals as well as the applicability of the new public management principles into these entities. This research study is aimed at exploring a specific case study, Dong Da General Public Hospital, and from scrutinizing its situation suggesting the new public management's reform strategies to the hospital. Qualitative and quantitative methods are used including interviews, observations, and questionnaires. The study has pointed out the hospital's employees' and patients' assessments on the hospital and their aspirations. The essence of a reform which should be carried out in the forthcoming years has indicated. The study also gives out the specific solutions to the management based on the market-driven reform and managerial reform strategies. |
