AbstractDebit cards are cash alternatives. This report deals with consumers' attitudes towards a cashless society. As a result of the study it was found out that in Thailand it is very hard to operate without cash. The lifestyle of an average consumer involves buying low-value products and services and it is not likely that the entire system would change to a paper/coin-less system anytime in the next future. In France, similar problems occur. However, the replacement of hard cash is made complicated by the fact that different cards exist for different systems (parking, transportation, micro-payment etc.) Finally, consumers do not know how to evaluate digital money convenience when they have to look for the correct card in their wallet and remind how to use it: a PIN? A signature? This paper will focus on the case of digital purse Thai Smart Purse recently launched in Thailand (Bangkok and its region) and Moneo in France. Both initiatives have difficulties to take off.
