AbstractAutonomous mobile robots are still a well-researched topic in robotics and recent progresses have been made in this field. Many new technology to achieve a range of objectives has been proposed and also been successfully implemented. This proposed research is to develop automatic object detection and object recognition module to support a typical autonomous mobile robot. This research is divided in two steps: In the first step, object detection includes: color and shape filter, in the color filter hue is selected to describe the color of an interested object. To construct hue histogram, an image or object (usually in RGB color space) must be converted to HSV color space and shape filter is calculated object moments and contours. In the second step: object recognized used the shape matching algorithm, is marking the regions in an image coinciding with the given template in the knowledge database according to a certain rule. Our shape matching process that compares two shapes to determine whether they are similar or not can be affected by matching two contour moments. If the tolerance of two shapes is still less than a threshold value, then they are matched and used the stereo vision technique to determine the target object distance from mobile robot
