AbstractZn removal of wastewater discharged from the spinning process of rayon industry was studied. Sulfide rich effluent from UASB reactor was mixed with wastewater for zinc removal. Before sulfide-rich effluent from UASB was recycled, optimum p1l for ZnS precipitation was ascertained by the jar test. It was showed that more than the pf1 8 was optimum for ZnS precipitation and the removal efficiency was more than 98.6%. According to jar test result, the pilot scale zinc sulfide precipitation process was carried out at pH between 7 and 8 because difficult to adjust pH at exact amount in real condition. The results from the precipitation showed that more than 96 °% of' zinc was removed as zinc sulfide and it meet the National Discharge Standard of 5 mg/I of zinc concentration. The settling characteristic of zinc sulfide sludge was investigated by batch settling column test. Experiment with pure supernatant and CaSO4 and ZnS mixed supernatant achieved a total TSS removal efficiency of 64 % at 70 min and 88.8 % at 60 min, respectively. Based on the hatch settling test result, provided the settler design as 2 circular basins with diameter 11.3 m and slope 0.04 mm/m. CBA was based on evaluation between conventional treatment and developed technology. The analysis obtained O&M cost of developed technology was less than the cost of conventional treatment
