AbstractThe research is an attempt to explore the challenges that women entrepreneurs in Phnom Penh, Cambodia face in both their families and in the business lives with special attention to the nature of work-family conflict. In order to understand the situation of women entrepreneurs, the study made a comparison with men entrepreneurs in Phnom Penh, and interviewed 20 women entrepreneurs and 20 men entrepreneurs. Women are dominant in many types of enterprises - food, beverage and tobacco sector. Difficulty is more likely to be found among women entrepreneurs who start their business without having any experience. There is gender segregation at work as women owners are responsible for most of the managerial work and needed support from their spouse and children in terns of technical work. This contrasts with men entrepreneurs since they do both managerial and technical works with help from spouse and children in terms of light work. Women entrepreneurs are facing more challenges as they are responsible for both productive and reproductive work, which limit them from attending any training on issues of regulation, management and technology. Cultural barriers which perceived Cambodian women to be born and raised as housewives and limit their movement outside their homes suppress women not to be able to upgrade their business. This form of work-family conflict is more likely to happen among women entrepreneurs than their counterpart
