Abstract | Growth of ZnO nanowires has been successfully carried out using Hydrothermal Growth method. Characterization of the wires grown with different precursor concentrations has been done. Attempts were made for improving the seeding of the substrates with ZnO nanoparticles using different methods. Experiments were done to study the photocatalytic degradation of organic compounds like methylene blue and toluene using ZnO nanoparticles and nanowires. The primary objective of this thesis work was to grow photocatalytic ZnO nanowires of considerable aspect ratio and use them as particulate and VOC filtration media for hard disk drives. An innovative idea was to grow ZnO nanowires on polyethylene fibers of standard hard disk drive filter media. This has been successfully done with nanowires of aspect ratios well up to 500. Standard tests were carried out to check the feasibility of using the developed material as a hard disk drive filter media |
