Abstract | In recent years, Thailand has embarked aggressive policy on biotechnology development and harnessing this to boost industry and agricultural sectors. One target focus of biotechnology development and employment has been the shrimp industry, a sector that has become a major export revenue earner of the country in recent decades. Many people and farmer become interesting in cultured harvesting of shrimp as well as Thai's government. Thai's government play attention on shrimp farming in the area of developed of shrimp specie or technological use. But they might lack of gender sensitive when they provide training to farm owner or farm manager. And they might also lack of consider women as beneficially group. Since women are share the minority group of the total farmer. This study was conducted to examine gender differences in knowledge and management practice related shrimp farming. Both quantitative and qualitative research techniques were undertaken in Surat Thani province, Thailand. The research utilized anthropological methods of survey, participant observation, indept interview, and focus group discussions at the study village. The study found that women have many limitation in becoming shrimp farm manager since shrimp farm have many special characteristic that might be against social norm of gender division of labor especially big farm or other word it suit men more than women. This research illustrates that knowledge on new technology and control over labor play an important role .for management practices |
