AbstractOnshore coral blocks were found at two sites in 60km radial distance from Krakatau volcano which erupted and triggered tsunamis in Sunda Strait, Indonesia, in the years 416 and 1883. At one of these sites, Gubug Garam beach, on the east coast of Lampung Bay, Sumatra, 54 coral boulders up to 27m3 were found lying on a 90m wide coral platform. Three major directions of boulder longer axis were observed based on boulders frequency distribution. In shore part, at least 25 boulders were found embedded in the ground. Digging beneath six of the boulders, we found that they rest on pumice and tuff layer, which generally are thinner inland and in turn overlie former topsoil. Above this layer is top soil consists of clayey silt or silty soil with some shell fragments. At other site, Anyer beach, on the west coast of Java, is set up in a similar setting to Gubug Garam. Four boulders in supra tidal region were found inland up to 240m. One among these boulders is the biggest clast with 317m3 volume as recorded 125 years ago caused by the 1883 tsunami. We thus infer that the blocks at both locations were displaced during the same event
